Welcome to the Wildboarclough and
Macclesfield Forest parish website!
The parish is
one of Cheshire's largest and most picturesque parishes and is based around
the small rural hamlets of Wildboarclough and Macclesfield Forest.
Nestling in the hills on the western side of the Peak District visitors have
the opportunity to explore a beautiful corner of Britain's oldest national
park using an extensive network of paths and bridleways. You will also
be most welcome to visit the local hostelries and attractions.
One of the main local events is the annual
Rose Queen Fete and
fell race which take place on Spring Bank Holiday
Monday in the grounds of Crag Hall. On the first Sunday after 12
August the annual Rushbearing Service
takes place at the Church of St Stephen Macclesfield Forest. Please come and join us.
Forest Chapel Rushbearing
Sunday, 14th August at 3 p.m. Preacher – Mrs. Beryl Stew
This service carries on a tradition going back many
hundreds of years, when rushes were laid on the floor for people to sit on.
Rushbearing was the time when the old rushes were thrown away and new ones
were cut and brought in. It was a time for the congregation to renew
their lives and their faith, but as years went by the religious significance
became overshadowed by festivities, and most churches began to hold Rose
Queen fetes and Village Fairs on Saturdays. Forest Chapel has kept a
simple Sunday service with the church beautifully decorated with rushes and
flowers. Part of the service is held outside and everyone is welcome to
come. For further information please click on the following
